CDC says measles cases are most likely underreported as outbreak swells in Texas

Two unvaccinated children in Texas and an unvaccinated adult in New Mexico have died… Dr. David Sugerman…more than 90% of the cases are “related to the Southwest outbreak, driven by transmission in close-knit, undervaccinated communities.”

Common Initial Symptoms (Prodrome):
- High Fever: sometimes exceeding 104°F (40°C)
- Cough: A dry cough
- Runny Nose/congestion
- Red, Watery Eyes
- Sore Throat
- Blue-white spots on a red background inside the mouth may appear two to three days after the initial symptoms
- It often starts on the face, especially at the hairline, and then spreads down the body to the neck, torso, arms, legs, and feet.
RASH
- The rash typically appears 3-5 days after the initial symptoms begin.
- The rash can appear as flat, red spots or as raised bumps, and the spots may join together as they spread. It often starts on the face, especially at the hairline, and then spreads down the body to the neck, torso, arms, legs, and feet.
- Other symptoms that may be present
- Fatigue and Irritability: General tiredness and a lack of energy are common.
- Loss of Appetite: A decreased appetite may occur.
- Light Sensitivity: Photophobia, or sensitivity to light, can be experienced.
- Muscle Pain: Body aches may be present.
